It all starts in cold and ugly Michigan. Lou (Natasha Lyonne) and her friend Sadie (Chloë Sevigny), overloaded with drugs and booze, are dancing around a fire. Lou wakes up the next morning with both an case of unfortunate amnesia and a bun in the oven. Our heroine's natural habitat, a trashy trailer, is very revealing of her character — a toxic mess. Needless to say, she's not your average girly-girl, more like a dudette who loves weed, pissing, and the TV Show MANIMAL. Most of all, being pregnant is not her style. As she's getting bigger at an alarming rate, she meets conspiracy-crazed Lorna (Meg Tilly), who tries to help shed light on her condition. But the more Lou tries to remember, the more confusing it gets.
For his feature debut, visual artist and experimental filmmaker Danny Perez delivers a fresh take on the horror genre. Gently bending the rules, he contrasts colorful photography and twisted sound design with the grey backdrop of his demented yet engaging story. Natasha Lyonne (that cool chick from AMERICAN PIE, also in Kevin Smith’s YOGA HOSERS at Fantasia this year) brings a unique character to life. If Lou is far from a well-mannered lady, she's no less of a vulnerable woman. Lyonne gives her that special depth, both funny and endearing, almost tragic at times. This experience of a film leaves a viewer intoxicated with laughter and shaking with fear. And its stunning climax certainly won't be what you expect.
