Things just aren’t going Goran’s way. An out-of-shape, perpetually broke alcoholic, he drives a taxi in a forgotten corner of Croatia. Clients are all too rare and Goran doesn’t earn enough to impress his father-in-law, a wealthy factory owner. Goran would seem to be the perfect definition of an utter loser, but there’s something that doesn’t make sense. Given his total lack of ambition and terrible drinking habit, what’s he doing with Lina, a ravishing redhead obviously out of his league? Blind since childhood, she probably doesn’t know what a dirtbag she’s associating with. In any case, his birthday is coming up, and Goran has nothing special planned, just a night of drinking with his buddies. His wife gives the party her blessing, unaware that it will be fatal to their relationship. Drinking has a way of bringing out the truth, and this little eveing isn’t going to finish well…

Believe us when we tell you that one of the unmissable discoveries of Fantasia’s 20th edition is GORAN, by Nevio Marasovic, who displays a knack for capturing malaise like few others. He has cooked up a social drama that slyly develops into a hilarious comedy of manners along the lines of CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM. Working with an incomparable cast, Marasovic strings together bundles of black humour, equally excruciating and irresistible. It’s a shame we can’t share more of the hair-raising antics afoot here, you’ll just have to find out for yourself — but we guarantee a great big dose of hilarity. Comparable to the HANGOVER series, this amalgamation of deranged situations is certain to find a place on your list of comedy favourites.
