Frontieres: The Fantasia International Co-Production Market
In its inaugural 2012 edition, Frontières presented 14 projects, as well as 10 Off-Frontières projects, ailing from Quebec and Canada, the USA, Mexico, France, the UK, Australia and New Zealand.
For its second edition, Frontières has curated a dozen standout genre film projects by filmmakers hailing from Canada, the United States and Europe. These projects will be featured in the co-production market, where the attached filmmakers and producers will be given a chance to meet with international producers, sales agents and distributors looking for projects to get involved with.
The Off-Frontières section will also make its return, to highlight a limited number of additional projects in a wider range of development stages. This selection should also allow for the inclusion of more Canadian and American projects, although international projects are also welcome.
To participate in Frontières, the selected projects had to be market premieres with a completed script and needed to be applicable to an international co-production environment where there is ideally be a Canadian production element (either in terms of production location, cast or crew, or post-production). They have a domestic producer attached, although some exceptions have bern made for exceptional talents looking to find a new producer. The Off-Frontières selection will allow for the inclusion of projects that did not fit all of these guidelines. The market is open to both seasoned directors and directors proposing their first feature film project. The directors are residents of either Canada, the United States or a European country. The Frontière line-up of projects has now been selected. They feature an exciting array of filmmakers, from gifted newcomers to world-renowned maestros, coupled with numerous established international producers. The selection of the second edition of the Frontières International Co-Production Market will consist of the 25 projects.

THE FUTURE OF FRONTIÈRESWe are proud to announce the expansion of our Frontières International Co-Production Market to the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival. Frontières will effectively become a circuit making a bridge between Montreal, in July, and Brussels, in April, respectively starting with their July 2013 and April 2014 editions.
This expansion was made possible by a strategic partnership between Fantasia, BIFFF and Vision-in-Motion that secured funding from the MEDIA Mundus program of the European Commission. Frontières is the only new initiative to be funded by the program this year. MEDIA Mundus supports the cooperation between audiovisual professionals in Europe and the rest of the world. Other events supported by the program include industry initiatives by the Toronto, Berlin, Copenhagen and Buenos Aires film festivals.
The consideration of co-production projects for the Brussels edition of Frontières will begin in November 2013.
