Monday, July 22 at 9:30 p.m. on the Videotron Stage of the Just For Laughs Festival, in the Quartier des Spectacles. Presented in collaboration with Archambault and Cinémathèque Québécoise

THE KINGS OF COMEDY is a collaboration between the Just For Laughs and Fantasia festivals. In the span of one night, audiences can relive the Golden Age of silent cinema thanks to a free outdoor screening, composed of three classic short films by the era’s greatest comics, Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin, and Laurel & Hardy. Just like in the good old days, these short films will be accompanied live on stage by a pianist, who will improvise new soundtracks for these hilarious shorts.

Composer, conductor and appointed pianist for the Cinémathèque Québécoise, Gabriel Thibaudeau is known across the globe as a great specialist in silent-film accompaniment. Fantasia has worked with him in the past on screenings of METROPOLIS and THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA at Place des Arts in 2010 and 2011. This event is the next in a line of successful collaborations, and yet another unique chance for spectators to live a very special moment.

ONE WEEK (Buster Keaton, 1920, 25 min.)
Buster receives as a wedding gift a pre-fabricated house delivered in multiple pieces, each in their own box. To his great dismay, the numbers on the boxes have been inverted, rendering construction impossible – and the arrival of a piano, a storm and a train only add to the chaos.

LIBERTY (Leo McCarey, 1929, 20 min.)
In LIBERTY, Laurel and Hardy escape from prison. Wanting to dress like civilians, they turn their pants inside out: a series of visual gags follow that culminate in a scene set amid the beams of a construction site.

THE IMMIGRANT (Charlie Chaplin, 1917, 25 min.)
Charlie Chaplin and other immigrants make their way by ship to New York. The crossing is turbulent, and upon arrival, the Little Tramp hasn’t got a dime, let alone a job or a home. Then one day, he finds a coin on the ground…
