Description

Seventeen years after escaping the flood waters of Planet Aquarius, Earth has its peace shattered by a seemingly impossible new threat—a black hole moving through space on a precise course for Earth. For the human race to survive, there is only once option—mass migration to another planet. But while en route to a new home in the Amare system, the first wave of civilian transports, captained by Yuki Mori, are ambushed by a fleet of unknown origin. When a second transport fleet is massacred in like fashion, Earth's President Sanada calls upon former space battleship Yamato captain (and husband to Yuki Mori) Susumu Kodai to head up a third transport mission. The remains of Yamato have been salvaged from the frozen waters of Aquarius and rebuilt with advanced technology. Kodai accepts the mission, determined to discover his wife's fate and to reconcile with his daughter, who blames him for her mother's disappearance. Only three months remain before the arrival of the black hole.

Just as before, the transports are attacked, but with Yamato spearheading its defense, the fleet escapes to Amare. The attackers reveal themselves as members of the Star Union. The ruthless S.U.S., leaders of the Star Union, have accused the Earth people of violating their peace with an invasion and ordered the member planets to wipe out the fleeing humans. As a member of the Star Union, Amare is caught in an untenable position. They have offered their moon to the Earth as a humanitarian gesture, but the S.U.S. has threatened Amare with destruction if they do not turn the refugees away. If Yamato acts, it will bring doom to Amare, but if it does not act, 300 million Earth immigrants will have no place to go. And the cascading black hole relentlessly approaches Earth, where many people still remain...

SPACE BATTLESHIP YAMATO: RESURRECTION brings the YAMATO saga back to the big screen after nearly 30 years, offering a pleasing mix of the old and the new. With the distinctive production design of the original animated series and films combined with modern CG work, the artistry of YAMATO reaches new heights of beauty and excitement. Despite the passing of series composer Hiroshi Miyagawa, fans of the original will be pleased to hear the return of his signature themes, while newcomers to the saga will discover Miyagawa's mastery. The YAMATO staples of melodrama, apocalyptic scenarios, and exciting battles are taken to new heights in the return of the space battleship Yamato.
