DJ XL5's Smashin' Zappin' Party

Since 2004, DJ XL5 has delivered annual short-film programs that feel like two-hour compact film festivals. This year, he has assembled more than 30 short films, mixed with found footage, to create a program reminiscent of a session of late-night channel surfing—and the end result resembles a fun social critique of the strange world we live in. This new Zappin’ Party offers new works from old favourites as well as great discoveries.

Fans of Dr. Tran, rejoice! Not only will you get to see FRUIT HAT, the newest adventure of the little Vietnamese guy, you will also be treated to five episodes of his new series, DR. TRAN FANMAIL. SIMON’S CAT is back in three new crazily fun shorts: FLY GUY, SNOW BUSINESS and HOT SPOT. Don Hertzfeldt (THE MEANING OF LIFE and EVERYTHING WILL BE OK) is also part of the line-up with WISDOM TEETH, his funniest comedy since REJECTED. Bill Plympton is also back with two new shorts - HORN DOG, the fourth adventure of his famous, unlucky dog (GUIDE DOG, GUARD DOG and HOT DOG), and SANTA: THE FASCIST YEARS, which offers an intriguing look at an unknown chapter in the life of old Nick. Adam Green (HATCHET) is the master behind JACK CHOP, a wild fake infomercial. Once again, Patrick Boivin blows us away with his talent fully displayed in MICHAEL JACKSON VS MR. BEAN and an IRON MAN parody. Carnior, a regular of the Zappin’ Party, presents HERO, a crazy mockumentary.

There’s still more fun on the bill with the world premiere of the newest work from the Roadkill Superstar collective, DEMONITRON, LA SIXIÈME DIMENSION. Discover Simon-Olivier Fecteau’s LE TECHNICIEN, Joël Vaudreuil’s LA RÉCRÉATION DU MIDI, and REVUE TEMPORELLE 86-87, ALEXANDER and RESERVOIR RANGERS, three films by the prolific Mathieu Lavigne. Lavigne will present, along with François Pelletier, with whom he co-directed the trailer from a fake erotic film from Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panini - OÙ EST LA MAISON DE LANNY?. Furthermore, discover Jake Armstrong’s THE TERRIBLE THING OF ALPHA-9!. For complete film descriptions, please visit www.fantasiafestival.com. DJ XL5 is the only Fantasia programmer with a record of starting 20 minutes ahead of time, so be there early!
