An Exciting Evening with the Artists of Tokyo Gore Police

July 13th, 2008 21:25:00

Yoshihiro Nishimura.

Expectations were high for Tokyo Gore Police, very high. From hearing the crowd roar before, during and after the screening, we can say hands down that the team behind this indescribable movie succeeded in impressing the audience. The team was very well represented as well at the Hall Theater last night. Firstly, the kind and versatile writer/director Yoshihiro Nishimura, expert in makeup and special effects who demonstrated his knowledge in many of Sion Sono’s movies Sono (Suicide Club, Noriko's Dinner Table and Strange Circus) and on Meatball Machine, Sukeban Boy, Machine Girl and Akanbo shôjo. Afterwards, present that night was the superb actress Eihi Shiina, who has marked the festival with her performance in Takashi Miike’s Audition (kiri kiri kiri kiri kiri kiri!), and others like Hold Up Down by the illustrious Sabu and Sky High. If you were not present last night, you will start hating yourself for missing out, but there is more! Actor/choreographer Tak Sakaguchi, also known for his roles in Versus, Alive, Aragami, Azumi and Godzilla: Final Wars by Ryuhei Kitamura, in addition to Battlefield Baseball, Azumi 2, Cromartie High School, etc. Producers Yoko Hayama and Yoshirori Chiba and stuntman Isao Karasama were there too.

After the screening, they came back before the audience who noisily expressed their appreciation. They generously and instructively shared various anecdotes during the Q & A session. Yoshihiro Nishimura arrived wearing a very short traditional Japanese costume and one of the mutant prosthesis from the movie, which threw the crowd in frenzy from the start.

About everyone participated. The cherry on the sundae was when Tak Sakaguchi and Isao Karasawa deliver a combat simulation. As you can probably guess, Tak won.

The party carried itself to the main hall where the stars of the movie signed autographs and met the fans, then moved on to the sidewalk where Madame Shiina posed for the photographers even at tthree in the morning. Very classy. Domo arigato gozaimasu.
