Short Film Programs : The Best of Ottawa International Animation Festival 2006


The Best of Ottawa International Animation Festival 2006Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the OIAF is the largest festival of its kind in North America and one of the most respected animation festivals in the world. The Best of Ottawa program showcases many of the outstanding films presented in its Official Competition.



Guy101 (Ian Gouldstone, U.K., 8 min.) A man hears a story about a hitchhiker from the other side of the internet.
Dreams & Desires: Family Ties (Joanna Quinn, U.K., 9:50 min.) On acquiring a new Digi Video camera, Beryl becomes obsessed with the filmmaking process, using it to articulate her dreams & desires in a video diary.
Mr. Schwartz, Mr. Hazen & Mr. Horlocker (Stefan Mueller, Germany, 7:40 min.) Disturbed by loud music of one of his neighbours, Mr. Schwartz calls the police.
Tyger (Guilherme Marcondes, Brazil, 4:30 min.) A giant tiger mysteriously appears in a big city, revealing the underground reality in an otherwise ordinary night. Inspired by William Blake's "The Tyger".
The Possum (Chris Choy, USA, 5:20 min.) A story about an apple farmer and a possum.
Lightning Doodle Project (Pikapika) (Takeshi Nagata & Kazue Monno, Japan, 4 min.) “The animation collaboration project using the flashlights. We spend a very enjoyable evening through making this animation.”
Rabbit (Run Wrake, U.K., 8:30 min.) When a boy and girl find an idol in the stomach of a rabbit, its magical abilities lead to riches, but for how long?
Crossing the Stream (Skip Battaglia, USA, 4 min.) About work. About consciousness. A mediation on water, and the animation of water. A poem in the shape of a stream. For Bruce Baillie.
The Runt (Andreas Hykade, Germany, 10 min.) "Wanna eat them. Gotta kill them."
The Carnival of the Animals (Karneval Zvirat) (Michaela Pavlátová, Czech Republic, 12 min.) Much like the modern dance art, this musical erotic fantasy is marked by interplay of the visual and musical components –- picture, rhythm, colour, motion.
Jason Forrest: War Photographer (Joel Trussell, USA, 4:12 min.)
A sea-vessel of Vikings struggle to maintain their honour as a mysterious rival ship wages an all-out rock war.
Who I Am and What I Want (Chris Shepherd & David Shrigley, U.K., 7:30 min.) "This film is about who I am and what I want. It’s NOT about who YOU are and what YOU want. You always think everything I make is about you but it’s not. It’s all about me..."
