Description
It’s a dark and stormy night in Transylvania. A frightening vampire rises from his coffin – and promptly gets bitten by a mosquito, which makes it getaway, only to fly smack into the window of an airliner bound for Korea. Meanwhile, a team of tough cops are preparing to raid a betting parlour, and none of them are more zealous than Do-yul. The raid is a flop – someone tipped off the sleazy ringleader, Mr. Tak. It seems that Do-yul is living a double life. But when the vampire mosquito gets a bite in, Do-yul’s schemes get more complicated. His newfound vampirism seems to come and go, depending on the proximity of sexy young women! As he slowly comes to terms with his thirst for human blood, and the remarkable superpowers that come with it, he comes to the attention of the church, who dispatch a specialized vampire hunter – and it isn’t just a speeding ticket he plans to give the vampire cop!
The nutty, slam-bang, sexed-up action-comedy, Vampire Cop Ricky is a non-stop thrill ride of goofy gags, exciting action and cool special effects, a very different effort from director Lee, who brought us 2009: Lost Memories. Kim Su-Ro, playing Do-yul, at last takes a starring role – as a character actor, he brought hisa special touch to bit parts in Attack The Gas Station, The Foul King and Volcano High, three titles familiar to devoted Fantasians. A good decision on his part - Vampire Cop Ricky was box-office hit right out of the gate upon its domestic release in Korea! And no wonder, given its high-energy mish-mash of classic horror, hard-boiled police thriller and lively, lighthearted comedy with a strong shot of sex farce!—Rupert Bottenberg
