description

A virtual film festival in two hours! This year, DJ XL5 gathered more than 30 short features and commercials, and some 45 sampled images, from around the globe—Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Canada, England, France, Iran, Japan, Mexico, USA, and of course, Planet Montreal. DJ XL5 has invited several Montreal-based artists to help him create a sequel to last year's DJ XL5's Zappin' Party Extravaganza, one of the surprise successes of last year's festival. DJ XL5 brings into play short features and found images the way musical DJs use songs, remixes and samples in their continuous-mix sets or mixed CD compilation. The final product is a kind of "culture jamming" or "media barrage," a rapid-fire satire of modern culture, television zapping as a source of evening entertainment and the strange world we live in.

This year, DJ XL5 pays a special tribute to Jennifer Shiman. Rediscover Alien , Freddy Vs. Jason, Pulp Fiction, Scream, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Titanic, all presented in 30 seconds—and re-enacted by bunnies. You’ll also witness Black and White Red all Over, Case Tape 347, DebilDead, Flatlife, Happy Tree Friends : The Way You Make Me Wheel, L’Homme sans tête, It’s Intermission Time, Lonely Robot Duckling, Milton is a Shitbag, Mom Vs The Undead, Oh Mikey: Episode 24, Perestroika: The Great Pretenders, Rejected , La Révolution des Crabes,Torino 2007 Ski Jumping Pairs and Terrestrial. The program includes many more surprises, some weird advertisements from France, two brand-new productions from Montreal’s own Dead Cat Films and some special treasures from the Montreal Film Society. Complete listing available on www.fantasiafestival.com.

DJ XL5’s International Zappin’ Party 2005 is the only featured program at Fantasia that actually begins 20 minutes before its due time. Be there early!
